CHANDIGARH: A Babbar Khalsa militant, Maninder Singh (22), alias Pinta, a resident of Sector 22, by consuming cyanide when he was cornered by the Chandigarh Police on the out skins of the city on Feb.4, the police said.
He was driving an Ind-Suzuki motorcycle on the out skins of Khudda Lahora village, on being intercepted at a police barrier he tried to escape but his motorcycle skidded off the road. Leaving his motorcycle behind, he tried to flee into the fields but was chased by the police, Finding himself surrounded by the police, he consumed cyanide. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
The police is ascertaining his involvement in the killing of a PCS officer at Panchkula, R.N.Goyal and president of the Punjab and Chandigarh Patrakar Parishad Bhola Nath Masoom at Rajpura recently and is looking for his accomplice Kulwant Singh. Maninder was also reportedly involved in the killing of a sarpanch, Gurdey Singh, near Kharar. No arms were recovered from him. His mother is a teacher in a government school in Sector 37. He joined the Babbar Khalsa about six months ago. Although most of the time he was staying at Ropar, he used to frequently visit the city.
