Dear Mr. Chief Minister:

Contrary to the recent trend of sending you a congratulatory message, the World Sikh Organization of Canada wishes to convey the feelings of the Canadian Sikhs in regard to your victory and the recent elections in the State of Punjab.

The election held on September 25, 1985 in the state of Punjab is a farce and the victory a hollow one. The results do not indicate desired degree of confidence in the candidates who have been elected. This was more a staged managed show for the free world than the free expression of popular will of the people of Punjab. The irony of the election is that the people were made to vote under gun point. How can it be a democratic process under such circumstances? Eyer since the election date was declared, if anyone opposed Longowal Rajiv pact, he was dubbed as a terrorist by the government of India and in reality thousands of people were put behind the bars under false presence. To date thousands of Sikh youths and other committed Sikhs are still missing from their homes. The government machinery completely denies any knowledge by simply saying that they may have crossed over the borders to Pakistan. Whereas, most of them have been killed in false encounters by the Indian Police.

The only accomplishment of the election so far is that the Sikh community is divided and confused. Now, it will be for the Akali Dal (Longowal) government to do the dirty work of killing the innocent Sikhs in Punjab.

Mr. Barnala, if someone has to feel the glow of freedom and see how the democratic system works, then one should learn a lesson from the recent examples in the Canadian Parliament, where two Federal ministers have resigned. The reasons are that one of them made an unpopular decision to allow tainted tuna fish to go to the grocery stores and the other one is being investigated for overspending his election budget. Can anyone in the Indian democratic system do like them?

We have no doubt that the Guru will grant us our boon of a sovereign Sikh Nation (Khalistan) and we stand by all those organizations who have similar objectives. Mr. Chief Minister, a select few may still be confused about Guru’s work, but the minimum that your government can do is to act upon the following points:

  1. To get all Sikhs re

leased and drop all charges against them. This should include all army and civil servants, who rightfully revolted after the attack on the Golden Temple.

  1. Withdraw all army from all over Punjab without any exception.
  2. Bring the culprits of Amritsar and Delhi massacres of Sikhs to trial in the judicial courts.
  3. Hold referendum to ascertain the true will of the Sikhs in Punjab for establishing a sovereign Sikh Nation.

Many are still doomed, but do not be mistaken that the Sikhs have voted against the Khalistan movement. This gun point victory merely suggest that the Sikh population dislikes to be slaves of India and its ruling Congress party. There was no alternative for the innocent Sikhs, but to vote for those who appeared to be Sikhs.

The Sikhs living abroad have been awakened by the “ALMIGHT GOD” to serve the cause of Sikhism. MAY GOD GIVE YOU THE COURAGE TO UNDERSTAND THE TRUE AIM OF SIKHS “RAJ BINA NAH DHARAM CHALE HAI, DHARAM BINA SABH DALEH MALEH HAI.”

The World Sikh Organization will be monitoring your performance.
