AMRITSAR: All militant organisations had called for a complete strike on June 6, the sixth anniversary of the cowardly attack by Indian army on the holy Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and to observe this week as “genocide week” in Punjab.
State repression has increased since the attack on June 6, 1984. On that fateful day thousands of pilgrims gathered at Amritsar for the martyrdom day celebrations of Guru Arjun Dev ji were butchered in cold blood.
Meanwhile, security in the state, especially around the GoIden Temple has been stepped up.
Sikhs in Europe and America are holding protest demonstrations in front of Indian consulates and embassies in all major cities on Wednesday June 6.
