MONTPELLIER: West German soccer players will receive a bonus of 125,000 Marks ($73,000) if they win the World Cup in Italy this summer, officials announced.
The bonus deal was made in a 30 minute meeting between leading players and Federation officials in Montpellier.
West German Federation President Hermann Neuberger told a news conference no bonus would be paid unless the team qualified for the last 16 from the opening group matches.
After that, the bonus would rise from 20,000 marks ($12,00 dollars) on a sliding scale to 80,000 Marks ($48,000) for reaching the final and 125,000 Marks for the title.
