SRINAGAR: Pakistan trained militants shot at and injured a senior police officer and exploded four bombs in this capital city of Jammu and Kashmir.

The sub divisional police officer of Hazratbal police station, Ali Mohammad, was injured when militants fired at him near his residence in Khanyar locality Thursday while he was on his way to office.

Mohammad, who was admitted to hospital, is reported to have resisted the attempt.

According to an official spokesman, an explosive fitted with a safety fuse and detonator was found planted in the compound of police station, Safakadal late Wednesday. The bomb was defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Meanwhile, a bomb blast took place in a government building under construction at Ompura in Badgam district Wednesday, causing minor damages, official reports said,

Nearly 75-companies of Para military forces have arrived in Kashmir valley in the last three weeks following a decision of the authorities to take “stern measures” against freedom-fighters.

Official sources said 11 companies of Para-military forces were rushed to the valley in the past few days some of them form the northern states of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, to beef up security arrangements in the valley.

The need for more central police forces and border security force personnel was felt after the kidnaping of Dr Rubiya Sayeed, daughter of federal home minister and her subsequent release in exchange of five militants.
