NEW DELHI: The term of the Verma commission probing assassination of India’s former premier Rajiv Gandhi has been extended up to March 31 “in public interest so that all available evidence will be fully recorded,” a home ministry spokesman said.
The spokesman denied reports quoting official sources” that the term was extended as the commission was notable to complete recording of the evidence.
“The government wishes to clarify that no such official version was given to the press or to the Door darshan he added.
Meanwhile, the Ail India Congress I Committee (AICCI) Saturday moved an application before the Verma commission of inquiry seeking to cross examine Tamil Nadu Congress (I) committee president K Ramamurthy and pasty member of parliament MChandrashekhar who were associated with Rajiv Gandhis election campaign in Tamil Nadu, where he was killed in a bomb blast on May 21 at a public meeting in Sriperumbudur.
The application moved by AICC counsel R N Mittal, sought cross examination the two besides the chief organizer of the Sriperumbudur public meeting A J Doss and 10 Tamil Nadu police officers.
