Chandigarh: The United Akali Dal has decided to launch an agitation to press the release of the detained youth and the army deserters. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting in Amritsasr on Sept. 12. The United Akali Dal Secretary, Surat Singh Khalsa, told the reporters that the date for the agitation would be announced soon. The meeting was attended by Brahmpura, Jagjit Singh and others. The supporters of Talwandi were conspicuous by their absence. The members of the All India Sikh Students Federation also did not attend the meeting.

Meanwhile the All India Sikh Students Federation convener, Mr. Harinder Singh Kahlon, warned that if the recommendations of the Bains Committee for the release of 2,000 Sikhs were not implemented by Dec. 29, then the Federation would hero the Akali M.L.A.’s and force the Chief Minister to resign.
