KAPURTHALA, India: The Punjab Governor S.S. Ray has said that the Unified Akali Dal is eroding the mass base of the ruling Akali Dal particularly in the Malwa region. He made this observations to a deputation of ruling Akali Dal here . The Governor reportedly told the delegation that Baba Joginder Singh is emerging as a symbolic force among the Sikhs. He said he had gathered this information during a visit to Malwa recently. He said that Jagdev Singh Talwandi was also emerging as a force with the help of the freedom fighters. The deputation members included Mehar Singh, Chairman, Goinwal Industries Corporation, Hazura Singh, a member of S.G.P.C., Jaswant Singh, President Akali Dal, and Tarsam Singh, Chairman Market Committee Sultanpur Lodhi. The deputation submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding the implementation of the Punjab Accord, release of Jodhpur detainees, rehabilitation of army deserters, stoppage of fake police encounters and withdrawal of C.R.P.F. from the State.
