NEW DELHI (PTI): UNICEF has complimented India for various measures taken by the government for child development especially the success of Universal Immunization
This was conveyed by the UNICEF executive director lames. Grant who called on the Minister of Human Resource Development Mamata Bannerje here recently
Grant said the success of the immunization drive in India was better than in several. Western Countries. Immunization of children in Calcutta at age one was better than that done in New York. He called for similar success in the field of basic education
Arjun Singh emphasized the Government’s commitment to elementary education and literacy. Whatever was required not be done would be done he said. Lack of resources would not be allowed to come in the way
Mamata Bannerjee referred to the close ties between Indian and UNICEF. She informed grant a Comprehensive national program of action on children was under finalization.
