GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) set free the three hostages at 1000 hrs gmt on Sunday ending a high drama that sizzled this eastern state for the past 14 days, official sources said.
The three HKL Das, general manager of Guwahati refinery of Indian Oil Corporation, his son Amarnath and their driver Anup Duara were kidnapped by the ULFA radicals on July 16 from the refinery complex.
The ULFA said the hostages could be released on condition of freedom for three ULFA cadres arrested on criminal charges by the Assam government.
The ULFA, which extended the deadline for the release of the activists till 1330 hrs. Sunday, threatened that if their compatriots were not released, the hostages would be killed.
The court has released on bail all the three activists of humanitarian ground for the release of hostages, during the last two days.
