LUDHIANA — The Unified Akali Dal (UAD) has started playing cards to rehabilitate itself by talking of Anandpur Sahib Resolution once again after the fiasco of Rajiv Longowal accord, while, on the other hand, the Akali Dal (L) has tried to re -rail itself by submitting before the Akal Takhat. But these efforts are bound to be viewed by the public as hypocritical and misleading.
This was stated here by the Punjab Sikh Lawyers Council (PSLC) General Secretary, Mr. D.S. Gill. Any talk of Anandpur Sahib Resolution by the protagonists and supporters of the Rajiv Longowal accord was a cruel joke with the people of Punjab and mockery of their intelligence, he added.
Calling upon the public to beware of the foxy statements of the traditional Akali leaders, the PSLC spokesmen said these leaders had sold Punjab’s vital interests for their political and personal gains, they mischievously claimed themselves as Panthic and off and on misled the people by announcing their allegiance to the Anandpur Sahib resolution.
The Council urged the people to address themselves to the goals of the Panth namely doing everything to protest the existing rights and to endeavor to achieve autonomy with right of self-determination.
The Council spokesman, while calling upon the Sikhs not to pay heed to slogans of unity, which are nothing but a facade for power hungry, unprincipled “leaders” to stage a comeback, said that there was no need for unity with agents of the Centre, the unity was required among the masses and not among the “leaders” who had turned Dharam Yudh Morcha into Kursi Yudh Morcha.
The Council expressed the hope that the people of Punjab particularly the Youth would have to take up the cudgels for the realization of an autonomous Punjab as the traditional leadership had totally neglected the basic issues just for attaining political power.
