CHANDIGARH: Gurmail Singh, General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, has expressed surprise over the statement published in a section of the Press attributed to some members of the US Congress in which they had taken exception to the legitimate action of the Punjab Government in arresting the Akali leader. Simranjit Singh Mann, on the charge of sedition and on the grounds of demanding a separate state.

Strongly condemning the statement Gurmail Singh said that it showed that Mann has his roots in other countries and has been inciting the people by making provocative and anti-national speeches. This time, Mann had gone too far and the action of the government was totally justified in arresting him. Every country had the right to protect its sovereignty and no government could tolerate such postures and secessionist approach adopted by an individual like Mann. “Dr. Gurmeet Singh Aulakh had led at campaign of hatred and disinformation to achieve nefarious and evil designs Aulakh and his associates operating their anti-national activities from other parts of the world had launched a tirade against the Beant Singh government and the Congress Party. which has undertaken a determined fight against the anti-national forces creating discord among peace-loving Punjabis. These elements out of frustration had launched a false propaganda and created erroneous impressions among the people living outside India” said the General Secretary.
