PARIS, Dec. 20, Reuter:  US, Champion Pat Porter won the 12km figaro cross-country race ‘on Sunday, emulating Moroceo’s said ‘Aouita who was the only previous NonFrench victorin27 editions of the annual event.

Porter, ix times U’S. cross-country ‘champion, attacked midway through the race and again after eight, with Pierre Levisse of France the only rival to respond each time,

The American set up victory with his third acceleration one km from home and won in 38 minutes flat Levies was second, nine seconds behind, with Frenchman Thierry Pantel taking third.

Porter scored his first European win and matched Aouits’s 1981 feat in the absence of Frenchman Paul Arpin, ‘winner of the last two Figaro races, who was absent because of influenza.

Lynn Jennings, U.S, women’s crass ‘country champion, finished third in the four km women’s event, 11 seconds behind defending champion Marie Pierre Duros (13:39). France’s Florence Giolitt finished second.
