PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: Top seed Sze Yu of Australia and second seed Luis Pongoh of Indonesia advanced on Saturday to the final of the U.S. open badminton championships.

Yu easily won his semifinal match against sixth seed Lin Jun of China 1510, 151, while Pongob crushed Phyun Kwong Min of South Korea 152, 158.

“It was easier than I thought,” said Yu. “With my soft return, I got control of the game and he couldn’t recover. I really thought it would be much harder.”

In women’s singles, third seed Lee Jung Mi of South Korea beat seven seed Gil Young Ah of Korea 11-1 12-9 fifth seed Lee Myeong Hee of South Korea eliminated sixth seed Zhengs Badjun of China 11-6, 11-5.

‘On Friday Lee Myeong Hee upset top seeded Helen Troke of Britian 11-6, 11-8.

The finals are scheduled for Sunday in the first grand prix badminton tournament held in the United States.
