PATIALA: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) chief, Gurcharan Singh Tohra, has urged ‘the Akali Dal (Badal) president, Prakash Singh Badal, to give fresh ‘Thought to the appeal made by imranjit Singh Mann, president, Atali Dal (Mann), urging both the parties to reach an understanding in order to defeat the Congress candidates from Tam Taran and Ludhiana Lok Sabha seats. ‘While Surinder Singh Kairon, son of former Chief Minister, Parap Singh Kairon, is contesting from Tam Taran, Jaswant Kaur, wife of late Beant Singh, is a candidate from the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat. Tohra said the Akali Dal should put up candidates that could defeat Kairon and Jaswant Kaur, which would be like revenge against them, as Beant Singh and former DGP, K.P.S. Gill had been responsible in killing and torturing innocent Sikh youth, Tohra said it was Partap Singh Kairon during whose chief minister ship the river water interests of Punjab were sold to the Center by allowing the digging of canal for channelizing the river water to Rajasthan, He was also responsible for keeping out the Punjab is peaking areas from the sent Punjab while boundaries were being decided, he alleged. Kairon, in fact, allowed the Center a free hand in carving out a smaller Punjab in its present shape, Tohra said.
