NEW DELHI: The main national opposition party, Janata Dal won the support of the prominent farmer leader Mahindra Singh Tikait for the coming general elections, even as it received a jolt in Haryana, where three of its ministers quit the Devi Lal ministry.
The three ministers all of them elected on Janata Dal ticket from reserved constituencies accused the Chief Minister Devi Lal and the Janata Dal BJP coalition ministry of promoting the interests of the Jat community at the cost of others. They told a joint press conference in Chandigarh that they would, however, continue to work with the Janata Dal and try to cleanse it.
The three were the industries minister Dr. K.R. Punia, minister of state of civil aviation, Hari Singh Saini and minister of state for housing Lachman Singh Kamboj. They said some more ministers were likely to quit the 30 month old ministry soon.
