CALCUTTA (PTI): Holy relies of Gautam Buddha, encased in a fifth century B.C, soapstone casket, on display for the first time here, has turned the Indian mu sum complex into a place of pil Srimage for thousands of Buddhist monks in the country be sides, Japan, China and Thailand. Museum director, Dr.S.Biswas, Saud that over 50,000 visitors had paid their homage to the apostle of world peace since last Sunday with Hymn Chanting Monks performing their religious rites and prostrating themselves before the exhibit.
Brought from the national museum, Delhi, the casket is on its way to the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator, where it would form part of the 130 exhibits on Lord Buddha’s life in an Indian mu scum sponsored exhibition on the “way of the Buddha’ on September 1 Additional security measures had been taken for the rare exhibit which was so long ‘restricted’ for public exposition at the national museum, Delhi, Dr. Biswas said.
