AT the time of the imposition of the President’s Rule in Punjab, the Governor Mr. Ray had said that there would be no harassment to the public and that they would be treated with love and compassion. The following incidents show the treatment that is being meted out to the law abiding citizens of the State which will show to the readers as to what is happening in Punjab and why Khalistan is a necessity.

There are reports of “discrimination” against’ members of a particular community during searches of buses and other vehicles by the security forces. The “communal elements” in uniform are further vitiating the atmosphere. Recently, a responsible and law-abiding citizen was subjected to undue harassment merely because he happened to be wearing 4 turban. Mr. Suba Singh Bajwa, a Corporal in the Indian Air Force posted’ at Amritsar cantonment, was travelling in a Matador with the members of his family near Jandiala when their vehicle was signaled to stop by a few CRPF men. On being asked about his identity card and asked the security men to search whatever they wanted. The security men refused to acknowledge the identity card.

They started asking irrelevant questions and when Mr. Bajwa protested, the irritated security men attacked him with rifles butts and beat him up. An honorary Captain, Mr. Sampuran Singh, who was passing by recognized Mr. Bajwa and pleaded with the CRPF men not to detain Mr. Bajwa. A CRPF official later reached there and apologized on behalf of erring CRPF men.
