OSAKA, JAPAN: Thai Napa Katwanchai_ won the World Boxing Council (WBC) straw weight title from Japanese Champion Hiroki loka by a majority points decision after 12 rounds on Sunday,
Two of the judges, Dave Brown of Canada and Jose Guerra of Mexico, scored the bout in Napa’s favor 115-112, Raul Caiz of the United States had it 113-112.
‘Napa was the more aggressive of the two fighters, He landed more telling punches, including several powerful right hooks, on his way to a satisfying win which made up for his disappointment when the pair met last June,
Then Napa, a southpaw, failed to take the title from Toka in a controversial draw which drew criticism from Bangkok.
Napa said he hoped to retain the title several times and then move up a division.
