CHANDIGARH, India: The Haryana Akali Dal leader, Mr. Kartar Singh Takkar has asked Prof. Darshan Singh not to return to Amritsar in the present situation and instead resign from the post in conformity with his dignity and grace. Unfortunately some vested interests appear to be creating difficulties for Prof. Dai shan Singh and also to capitalize from the situation through which the Sikh community is passing, the Haryana Akali leader observed while talking to the newsmen. First of all, Prof. Darshan Singh should not have left the Akal Takht and Amritsar despite difficulties that came his way. If he did so because the circumstances in Amritsar were not conducive enough for his functioning, the situation now has not changed. Rather the circumstances have deteriorated further and my suggestion is that the Akal Takht Chief should not return to Amritsar, he said.

Mr. Takkar is a senior member of the S.G.P.C. While fully supporting the candidature of Mr. GS. Tohra for another term as SGPC, President, he regretted that the venue of the meeting had been shifted to Anandpur Sahib from Amritsar. This, he said, has not been liked by the S.GP.C. members from Haryana. Mr. Takkar claimed that all the seven members from Haryana will vote for Mr. Tohra now detained under N/S.A. However, he said that continuing of Harinder Singh as Acting President will not be accept able to him and other members from Haryana. Harinder Singh has failed to act against the corrupt elements of the S.G.P.C. who were allegedly involved in siphoning off lakhs of rupees.
