COLOMBO, Jan 21, Reuter: A Tamil Separatist group on Saturday accused Indian troops of assaulting about 100 civilians in northern Sri Lanka after losing six soldiers in a mine blast. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam said in a statement that Indian Soldiers, enforcing a pact to end a Tamil rebellion on the island, attacked residents indiscriminately at Valvettiturai last Thursday.

Indian High Commission (Embassy) officials in Colombo said they had no information on the incident.

The statement said the attacks were in retaliation for the killing of the soldiers by the Tigers.
