CHANDIGARH: The wives and children of two Superintendents of Police with the help of their respective security guards had a free for all at Kapurthala over the occupation of official bungalow last week,

Kahlon who served as SSP, Kapurthala, was transferred to Chandigarh as Assistant Inspector-General, Traffic, but his family continued to occupy the official residence since July.

Impatient with the prolonged occupation, the wife and children of Ajit Singh, who succeeded Kahlon, tried to evict the Kahlon family. Kahlon’s wife, Harkanwaljit Kaur, protested against the eviction and started dharna on the Kapurthala Amnitsar road causing traffic jam for many hours.

As AIG, Traffic, Kahlon at Chandigarh was one of the first officers to know of the traffic jam caused by his wife. He, therefore, rushed to Kapurthala with adequate force to meet with any eventuality.

In the meantime, members of Ajit Singh’s family slipped out of the official residence and moved to the local rest house. They described the incident to local journalists as a domestic affair of two senior police officers. The matter was brought to the notice of the Director General, KPS Gill, when he was camping at Delhi. He directed D.R. Bhatti, DIG., and Jullundur Range, to bring about peace between the two warring officers. Bhatti reached Kapurthala and counseled patience to the belligerent parties.
