Israeli’s Return Victoriously

MOSCOW, Reuter: A Israeli Basketball Club Maccabi Tel Aviv appeared in the Soviet Union for the first time in 21 years on Thursday, beating the Army Club CSKA Moscow 9792 in a match that mirrored better relations between the countries

The Soviet Union last month agreed 10 Israeli Basketball sides playing in Moscow for the first time since severing diplomatic ties with Israel during the 1967 Middle East War.

Subsequently matches between the two sides have been played on neutral ground but an Israeli Basketball Team did compete here in the 1973 World Student Games which led to brawling between police and flag-waving Soviet Jews.
