LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Reuter: The Olympic governing body said today it had plans to shift the 1988 Summer Games from Seoul, South Korea’s riottorn capital.

“For us there is no change”, Michele Verdier, spokeswoman for the Lausannebased internatioral Olympic Committee (IOC), told Reuters. “The Games were awarded to Seoul in 1981 and will be held in Seoul next year”.

Antigovernment protests by students have hit South Korea Cities and thrown into question the country’s ability to host the games. Los Angeles has offered replacenent facilities.

MELBOURNE, Reuter: Ausxalian longjumper Gary Honey, silver medalist at the Los Angeles Olympics, will miss the World Cup Championships in Rome next August after undergoing surgery on his feet.

WELLINGTON, Reuter: The future of the rugby union world cup, a concept greeted with much scepticism in some quarters, now seems assured following the success of the initial tournament.

Shortly after New Zealand confirmed their superiority over the other 15 competing nations by trouncing France 299 in the final yesterday, the chairman of the organization committee, John Kendall carpentar, said the tournament had proved its worth.
