MOSCOW, Feb. 6, Reuter: The Soviet Union conducted an underground nuclear test explosion on Saturday at its site in semi-palatinsk in Central Asia, Tass news agency reported.
Tass said the explosion, with a yield of up to 20 kilo tones, was carried out at 7:20 a.m. Moscow time “with a view to checking the results of studies in the field of physics of the nuclear explosion”.
The test was the first carried out by Moscow this year and the 17th since the Soviet Union ended a unilateral moratorium on nuclear testing last February.
