SEOUL Nov. 12, Reuter: Sixty-five countries have s0 far confirmed they will attend the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, organizers said on Thursday.
There are no communist countries among the 65 which have formally ‘accepted invitations to the games, the deadline for acceptance is January 17.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) sent the official invitations 10 a record 167 countries on September 17, exactly a year before the opening ceremony.
The 65 which have accepted comprise 18 European countries. 15 Asian actions, 12 in Africa, 15 in South and North America and five in Oceania, the organizers said
South Korea, which was awarded the games in 1981, has yet to settle ‘between its capital, Pyongyang, and Seoul, capital of the Western aligned South, It said the Olympics belonged to all Korean people
Four rounds of talks between north and South Korea at {OC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, have failed to resolve the crisis.
