WASHINGTON, D.C. On Sunday, January 18th, for the first time, Sikhs of metropolitan area represented by Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, the National Sikh Centre along with various groups representing twenty different faiths attended the memorial services held at the Washington Cathedral to honor Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The services were arranged by Interfaith Conference of Washington, D.C. The services were also attended by Archbishop of Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop James Hickey and Mayor Marion Barry of District of Columbia Washington, D.C. along with 2500 people representing all different communities in the Washington Cathedral on Masschessuetts Ave. S, Chatha Singh Sarni the President of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation National Sikh Centre said “Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for the civil and human rights of all people as Sikhs and as citizens of this great country we subscribe to his principles so it was important for us to participate in this event to honor a great man”. S. Rajwant Singh, Assistant Secretary of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, said “Equality and brotherhood for which Martin Luther King preached are fundamental to Sikh religion so it was a time for the Sikh community to demonstrate that they truly believe in this great ideal”.
