CANADA: On June 5 at aspects sever prominent Sikh personalities including the President of Ramgarh Sikh Society. Toronto expressed deep disappointment at the decision taken at Calgary by the Royal Canadian Legion majority debilities who did not want to Cone sider religions principles and unjustly denied Sikh Veterans with Turban the right to enter the Halls it is well recognized fact that the Turban is very symbolic for a Sikh and a mandatory religious head covering and protection of uncut hair The Canadian Legion Executive the Hue man Rights and the Governments at all levels have already recognized the Turban as a religious symbol and have given their unanimous decision that Sikh Veterans with turban are allowed into the Legion Halls. The congregation unanimously passed the following resolution:

This special religious congregation held at the 140 Rivalda Road Guru ghars (Sikh Temple) express total disappointment to team about the decision taken by majority delegates at the recently held Calgary convention of the Royal Canadian Veterans not to allow Canadian Sikh Veterans with their Turbans into the Legion Hall. Those soldiers with whom the Sikh ws fought side by side in World War HI they well understand that the Sikhs never remove their Tar ban even in the battle field. This decision taken in Calgary is a clear discrimination and against the religious rights of the Sikhs since it absolutely necessary for a Sikh I’m hear a Turban at all times to cover the uncut hair one of the five “Ks for a Sikh. We highly commend Mr. Robert Ford who after chairmanship he had held for last 18 years which was very appropriate to demonstrate due respect for the religious and human rights principles and for the Sikhs Veterans who deserve to be treated as any other Canadian Veteran In a Country like Canada where the Government always tried their best to preach human rights non-discrimination multiculturalism and race relation this decision of Calgary convention is a clear discrimination totally unfair and contrary to religious freedom and human rights. We deeply regret to protest this decision. We have full respect for all the Canadian Veterans and we hope and expect to see” they have the same respect for their Sikhs Veteran brothers.” Passed unanimously. June 1994_ D.S. Rhana
