NEW YORK: Congressman Wally Herger is to be honored at the Sikh Cultural Society, Richmond Hill on July 9, 1989.

Jagjit Singh Mangat, President of the Sikh Cultural Society told the World Sikh News that the society had called the congressman over to thank him for getting 204 members of the House of Representatives aware of the situation in the Punjab.

Mangat said “the Sikhs will always be grateful and Congressman Wally Herger and others who

cosponsored the bill. We would like to express our gratefulness to all the members of the house who voted for us. We hope that soon we will be able to tell other members of the house our plight and thus get their support to press India to stop the atrocities on the Sikhs.”

This is Congressman Wally Hergers first major appearance at any Gurdwara since he introduced the amendment last week. Didar Singh Bains the founder President of the World Sikh Organization and a prominent supporter of Congressman Herger is expected to attend the function.
