BARODA(PTI): An unbeaten century by opener Navjot Singh Sidhu helped favorites north zone to score a convincing seven wicket victory over central zone in the Deodhar trophy one day league match here on Oct.16,

The Indian opener played a brilliantly paced innings of 104 (116 balls) on a pitch showing uneven bounce to effectively shut out any hopes the central zone Camp might have nurtured of depending the small total of 165 they had com piled in SO overs.

 

North made 168 for 8 in reply with 8.3 overs to Spare. In the morning it was virtually uphill struggle for the central zone batsmen against the north attack after north skipper Kapil Dev put them into bat. Runs were hard to come by and, at one stage, central were in danger of being bowled out before their50over quota with score tea ding 97 for 7 in the 33rd over.

Central lost their batting mainstay and skipper Praveen Amre (16) to an irresponsible shot, bowled off the pads while trying an almighty pull off Manider Singh. They lost three more wickets quickly before an entertaining and resolute S1run eight wicket stand between Prashant Dwivedi (40) and Haryinder Sodhi (33 N.O,) pulled them around and helped them bat Out their quota of overs. For north Punjab pace man Obaid Kamal extracted good bounce off the lively pitch to pick up3 for33 in eight overs, while off spinner.

Ashish Kapoor returned 13 for 16.
