PATIALA: The Punjab Government’s move to withdraw murder charges against ace cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu and co-accused Rupinder Singh Sandhu has been thwarted by the district and sessions judge, R.L. Anand, who refused to accept the contentions of the government pleader. While rejecting the applications moved by the public prosecutor, the court observed that it was an attempt to “thwart or stifle the process of law in order to help the accused,” “Everybody should know that nobody is above the law,” the order noted.

Nayjot Singh Sidhu and his accomplice were booked in December 1988, following a scuffle near Sheranwala gate in which Mr. Gumam Singh allegedly succumbed to the “blows” delivered by the cricketer and his friend.
