CHANDIGARH: In the wake of the recent bomb blasts in Delhi and Jaipur, the city police have further stepped up its preventive measures to keep check on possibility of any militant activity in the City. The personnel of the Operations Cell have started conducing detailed searches at the Inter State Bus Stand and the Railway Station.

It is learnt that all the buses coming from out station and going to other cities are being thoroughly searched. Even local buses are not being spared and armed policemen along with personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force can be seen checking the buses for suspected articles and personnel. According to sources, ever since the Operational Cell was activated in the city, one and a half months ago, in the wake of the recently held Lok Sabha elections, thorough combing of the entire city has been carried out. Under its Prominent Places Search drive, the police have been scaling certain sectors from all sides and then combing them. After sealing the sector the personnel go through all its busy places, markets etc.

The Railway Station and Bus Stand have been combed many times.

In the evenings the police have been putting up static “nakas’ around the sectors, Police officials claim that the: psychological fear among residents of having the police presence in a sector, has given good results.

Extra measures have been taken at suspected hideouts of antisocial elements and the police have been conducting surprise raids at almost all the guesthouses, sara is annd farm houses.

The police officials claim to have conducted a house to house search in the Kashmiri migrant pockets to keep a vial on the possibility of the militants entering the city.

A record of the migrant mobility to Chandigarh and away from here is being maintained at the Police Post in Bapu Dham. According to the officials, the stress now is more on checking the mobility of Kashmin militants.
