AMRITSAR: Security forces arrested two militants last Friday, who were active in the days preceding Operation Blue Star and are held to have been close to the late Jamail Singh Bhindrenwala. ‘The arrested were identified as Gurmit Singh alias Sukha (50), a resident of Kakkar village and Bikramjit Singh (42), are sident of Ghariala village, reports said, Sukha, along with Labh Singh, was involved in the deaths of bus passengers in 1982, said Border Range Inspector General Bhatti. This incident contributed to the dismissal of the Darbara Singh Congress Government and the imposition of President’s rule in the State.
Sukha along with Labh Singh, and Surinder Singh Sodhi also hatched a conspiracy to kill the Haryana Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal, in 1983. The trio attacked the motorcade of the then Haryana Assembly deputy Speaker, Ved Pal, on the outskirts of Kamal, injuring Ved Pal and his gunman. The driver of the car was killed.
They were arrested in Gujarat and were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, which they completed only a few months ago.
