LUCKNOW: India’s sleuthing agency, the central bureau of investigation (CBI), submitted before a trial court that Sanjay Singh, prime accused in the Syed Modi murder case, had asked co accused Akhilesh Singh to arrange the services of someone for getting the badminton ace killed.

Quoting circumstances and evidence in support of the conspiracy charge against the accused, the CBI said Sanjay Singh, who happens to be a relative of V.P. Singh, asked Akhilesh for the services of someone a month before the murder.

The CBI submission comprising a detailed charge sheet against all the seven accused were filed before the court of the district and session judge, O.P. Pradhan.

While all the seven accused had been charged with conspiracy to murder, Sanjay Singh, Ammeta, wife of Syed Modi, and Akhilesh Singh have also been charged with abetment to the crime although they were not present on the spot.

When the tough attitude of Modi towards Ameeta was brought to Singh’s notice in June/July, the CBI alleged Singh told a Prosecution witness that “he would silence Modi in his own way”.

The CBI submitted that Singh had made a series of calls to Ameeta at her Bombay residence and also to accused Akhilesh at his Rai Bareilly house days before the murder.

The CBI said on July 18, 1988 days before the murder, Singh had called Bombay to confirm that the Modi’s had left Bombay for Lucknow. He had also alerted Akhilesh to execute the object of the conspiracy.
