OTTAWA, JAN. 24, 1990 — The killing of Harminder Singh Sandhu, General Secretary of All India Sikh Student Federation has been widely condemned by Sikh organizations and leaders.
The WSO “‘strongly condemned the senseless act of butchery. Democracy cannot survive in a land where human life cannot be protected.”
“There has been an election in India, but nothing has changed. Sikhs are still being killed. Fake “police encounters” are still taking place. India is failing miserably on all counts of human decency. A government must protect the life and liberty of its entire people. Why is it that no Sikh is safe in India? The New Year began with the killing of J. S. Khudian, a newly elected Sikh M.P. Recently Simranjit Singh Mann; another newly elected M.P. was shot at. Today Harminder Singh Sandhu has been killed. The World Sikh Organization and all its members offer sincere condolences to the family and friends of H. S. Sandhu,
The eyes of the world need only turn to India, to see the human rights violations that are the reason of our grievances. Everyone knows of course that freedom cannot be silenced.
