CHANDIGARH, India: An emergency meeting of the ruling legislature regretted the reflection of their plea by the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht to review his earlier decision. The meeting which was presided over by Surjit Singh Barnala said that unity in various sections of the party and the Panth could be achieved only on the basis of certain principles and with the consent of all. While the Akali Dal accepted the supremacy of Akal Takht, it was their contention that the Panthic Committee has directly challenged it. The meeting demanded reaction of the Akal Takht Jathedar on the reported statement by the Panthic Committee that if any political leader compromised on anything less than Khalistan, he will be treated as a traitor and eliminated physically.
