S.A.S.NAGAR: The Mohali police last week seized over Rs 30 lakh of unaccounted black money from atop industrialist, stated to be part of the Hawala transaction, According to district police chief R.P. Singh this is one of the biggest seizures made by Punjab Police as part of a special drive against economic offenders to check white collar crime.

This would lead to further revelations of the nexus between the industrialists and the criminals, he said. On the basis of secret information that a large amount of black money was being brought to Punjab by 2 groups of Hawala agents in league with a top industrialist of Gobindgarh from Delhi and Bhopal, a trap was laid with the help of the Income Tax officials. A joint team of police and IT officers, including Gaurav Yadav, SP Mohali, Nilimesh Barua, Assistant Director, Investigation, Joginder Kumar DSP Detective, Ropar and Mohali SHO Balraj Singh, had positioned themselves near Balongi chowk. According to preliminary investigations, Sansari Lal Mittal, Director of M/S Sunshine Steel Industry, Gobindgarh, was moving in his car along with the driver when he was intercepted at a naka near Balongi chowk. The Maruti car was stopped and the search that followed led to the recovery of Rs 30 lakh concealed in various bags, briefcases and cavities of the car.
