CHANDIGARH: The Ropar district bar association in a statement here condemned the forcible occupation of bar room library room and litigants shed at Anandpur Saheb by the Ropar district police and gave a state-wide lawyers strike from March 11 to 15 in Punjab.

The Ropar bar association has been on an indefinite strike for 50 days to protest against the arrest of six advocates of the district by the police merely for holding an enquiry into a fake encounter by the police in which six youths were killed. The association wants action against the deputy commissioner and the district police chief for the highhandedness in the district.

The association also condemned the harassment of Mr Chetan Kumar Gupta legal advisor of Ropar municipal committee by the police. The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association supported the Ropar agitation as just.
