[W.S.N. Fresno Bureau) FRESNO,CA: Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu ‘Roop’ a Fresno boy was honored recently for his outstanding research in the field of Microbiology during an International Science and Engineering Fair held at Tucson Arizona, He won second place honor in this international competition.

A 9th grader at Clovis High, Roop presented his research work measuring toxin levels in pseudomonas bacteria species. His work contradicted previously held myth that such toxins released by pseudomonas species killed deadly fungi. His father, Dr, Gurmail Singh Sidhu, a Geneticist at Fresno State University told W.3.N. That Roop was interested in pursuing his research further in order to prove his observations through mutation process.

Obviously excited Dr. Gurmail Singh Sidhu credited Roop’s years of hard ‘work and keen interest in research for his success. More than 1000 students from such countries as Canada, UK Europe, ‘Taiwan, Japan and Thailand participated in this completion, In April, Roophad won the competitions held by Central California’s San Joaquin Valley schools. Roop represented California in this international competition.
