NEW DELHI: Rumania will provide a fair trial to the Sikh Ambassador, “Ribeiro, in Bucharest unhindered by the abduction of its senior diplomat, Liviu Radu, in India last month, a Rumanian Embassy spokesman has said.

There will be no mala fide intentions because of Radu’s abduction and they will be tried

According to Rumanian Law” the spokesman told reporters here Saturday.

He ruled out handing over the militants to New Delhi, saying that there was not extradition treaty between the two countries. The spokesman also said the Rumanian government was ready to provide the services of a defense counsel at its cost for defending the militants.

Two militants were arrested, one injured and one killed as the Rumanian guards opened fire on them as they attacked and injured Riberiro.

The arrested militants are being treated in a civilized manner according to the international norms for prisons” he said, adding that they have been interrogated in a decent way and were not being tortured.
