CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government on Sunday remitted land revenue and abiana for the kharif crop in all the areas where the crops have suffered more than 50 percent damage due to recent floods.

Announcing the package of relief for the flood hit, an official spokesman here said pending rescheduling of short term and medium term cooperative loans the Government has decided to stay the recovery of loans or interest in respect to farmers who have suffered more than 50 percent damage to their crops.

The recovery of electricity bills is being stayed for the time being in respect to areas which have suffered more than 50 percent crop loss. This would cover both domestic and agricultural electricity bills. The recovery of industrial electricity charges is also being stayed where production has substantially gone down due to floods and is certified as such by the concerned deputy commissioner and the Punjab State Electricity Board.

Relief would be given at the rate of Rs 2,000 for completely damaged pucca house, Rs 1,000 for a completely damaged kachha. For the practically damaged houses and huts, relief would be admissible at the rate of half the above amounts. Provision of adequate loans through HUDCO and other financial institutions for the construction of houses would be arranged.

Two bags of wheat along with cash grant of Rs 450 would be given forthwith for a family of five to look after their food requirements up to November 30 next. Apart from this, 15 meters of cloth would be provided every family of five members.

To provide temporary shelter, polythene sheets of appropriate size would be supplied free of cost to every affected family.

The Government would give an ex-gratta of Rsd 1,000 per head for the eloss of milch cattle, bullock and camels and Rs 200 per head “for sheep and goat.
