Dear Editor,

Amarjit Singh Butter’s election to the Board of education in Connecticut (WSN Dec.1) deserves wider recognition and notice, Buttar is the first amritdhari Sikh to be elected to office in the United States, His presence as a Keshadhari Sikh in public office, provides more positive visibility to Sikhs here than most of our community’s activities. Our involvement in local government and institutions indicates coming of age for our people, Becoming similarly involved is the way to focus attention on Sikhs and to insure that our causes will not be so easily ignored.
