CALCUITA: The unusually strong reaction of WBPCC president Somcn Mitra to the rumored return of the Indian Ambassador to the US. Mr. S.S. Ray to state politics has taken heal political circles by surprise. On hearing that Mr. Ray had telephoned Mr. ABA Ghani Khan Chowdhary from Washington to express his eagerness to contest the forth coming Lok Sabha poll, a fuming Mr. Mitra told Presspersons in Delhi that Mr. Ray was like a “greedy jackal” who stuck his neck out whenever he sensed something was there to be gobbled.11is presence almost always had a saturnine effect on the-Congress fortunes. Whenever he has tried to poke his nose in state politics, the result has been unmitigated disaster.

Agreeing wholeheartedly with him was CLP leader Jamul Abedia who said his opinion of Mr. Ray was no different from that of the WBPCC chief. Mr. Matra said Mr. Ray was a typical example of a self-seeking Congress.

A section of the WBPCC however felt it was undignified of Mr. Mitra to have used such venomous language against a fellow Congressman. “He has never used such unparliamentarily Language even against any CPM leader in the past. Does it mean that Mr. Ray is a bigger enemy of his nun the CPM party sources observed drat though qtr. Ray may have mentioned in passing that he would like to come hack borne. It was highly unlikely that he would again be a participant in the “colorless” politics of West Bengal, especially after having held the high office of “our man in Washington.”
