GUWAHATI (ASSAM): Indian Prime Minister Narasimha Rao on Jan.21 stressed on peace and normalcy as a precondition for the development of the northeastern region which is bogged down by insurgency.

Give me peace and I will give you everything said Rao at a public meeting during his visit to Assam state.

The Prime Minister hinting at the recent spurt in insurgency in the region said without peace nothing could be achieved let alone development. Allow peace in the region and the rest including progress would automatically follow.

Rao also declared that his government was ready to talk to different extremist groups and misguided youths in the region if it could guarantee peace.

He said his federal government would take steps for utilization of the vast natural resources of the region and its manpower which would also help in bringing the situation back to normal.
