NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has accused some of the ministers of the Narasimha Rao government, including Home minister S.B. Chayan, of bungling and messing up the Kashmir situation, These ministers created more mistrust between the people of the troubled states and the rest of the country by their ‘twitch hunting” policies, Abdullah said at a meeting of eminent lawyers and scholars here last night. Congress President Sitaram Kesri, former law minister Shanti Bhusan and several top jurists were present at the function, He said Chavan never wanted him to come to power in the state and created many hurdles. The former minister always underestimated the strength of the national conference which received an overwhelming majority in the just concluded assembly elections. He said mistrust was the main cause for total alienation of the people of the valley. There was a need to create harmonious relations between center and state. Abdullah said his immediate priority was to bring about complete normalcy in the state, for which he required cooperation of all sections and political parties. He termed it an uphill task. On the question of return of migrants, he said his government would evolve a mechanism for their safe return. He, however, urged the migrants to give their cooperation to the state government to achieve this noble mission. He said the renegades would be rehabilitated and asked them to stop their wanton acts. Sanghi, chairman of “the search,” assured full support to Abdullah in his mission to restore complete peace in the state.
