PATIALA: Defending champions Railways once again displayed professional skill to emerge clear leaders in the grueling 100 km road race (team time trial) for men of the opening day of the 44th ‘Senior National Cycling Championship here today.

Exhibiting perfect combination, understanding and Stamina, the Railways quartet of Raja Saheb Attar, Lakhwinder Singh, Balwinder Singh and N. Christopher pedaled to glory on the busy PatialaNabha road, clocking two hours 35.27.65 seconds, at least nine minutes ahead of their nearest rivals and hosts Punjab,

The Railmen had won the event at the last nationals also, however, with a better timing of two hours 30.10.85 seconds.

The Punjab team overcame all odds, including failure of one the cycles of its riders, to finish second with a timing of two hours 44.24.73 seconds, Their team included Sukhraj Cheema, Balraj Cheema, ‘Swarn Singh and Harinder Singh,

Thriving much on their stamina and ruggedness, the team from services were close behind Punjab to get the bronze. They had a timing of two hours 45.13.06 seconds. The Services Team included Jagath Singh, LS. Sharma, Shyam Singh and Rajinder Singh.
