BOMBAY: The directorate of enforcement arrested a green card holder of the United States Wednesday evening on the charge of indulging in illegal money transactions for organizing stage shows abroad.
Producing the accused Dhimant Mulchand Doshi -before the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate M S Patankar the officials said incriminating documents were recovered from a hotel where Doshi was put up. These documents indicated that he had violated foreign exchange regulations act (FERA) provisions to the tune of Rs 935000.
In 1989 Doshi arranged shows of film stars in the U.S and received huge illegal amounts at the instance of Krishnan Lalwani of New York which he paid to artistes. In addition the artistes were paid some amount in dollars there the court was informed.
Doshi also admitted that he proposed to organise shows during March-April this year for which he had paid advance to five artistes which includes Rs 185000 received from Arun Govil of the US.
