REWARI: Last year’s champions, Punjab defeated old rivals and last year’s runners up Haryana 47-40 in a keenly contested match to clinch the title in the ninth National Circle Style Kabaddi Championship at the Shaheed Rao Tula Ram Stadium here for the second time in succession.
Jagtar Singh, Balwinder Singh (captain), Malkiat Singh alias Angrez Singh and Bittoo (all from Punjab), Satish Kumar (captain), Albad Singh and Ishwar Singh (all from Haryana) gave a fine performance. Jagtar Singh (Punjab) and Satish Kumar (Haryana) were declared “best catcher” and raider” respectively.
Earlier, Delhi beat Chandigarh 3922 for the third place.
In the women’s section, last year’s champions Haryana routed Punjab 4519 and won the championship for the second time in succession. Sunita and Up winder (both of Haryana) were adjudged “best raider” and “best catcher” respectively.
The third position went to Chandigarh, who beat Delhi 3128 in a well contested match.
