LUDHIANA: A meeting of lawyers, professors, journalists, ex-army officers and human rights Activists, convened by the Bharti Kisan Union (BKU), Interactional Human Rights Organization (THRO) and Sikh Vichar Manch to discuss the current Punjab political and human rights situation, has called upon the people to censure the protagonists of Rajiv Longowala ccord who are endeavoring to stage acomeback in their traditional political role of treachery in the state, and to democratically supplement the ongoing Sikh liberation movement by uniting all groups opposed to Rajiv Longowal accord, which was a betrayal of Punjab and the Sikhs, The two day meeting, concluded here on Sunday, while appreciating the role of certain groups including BKU, which took a stand against the digging of SYL canal in the recent past, has also called upon the Panthic organizations to make concrete efforts to stop the ongoing illegal supply of river water to Haryana and Rajasthan because Punjab has a sovereign right over its river waters,

The meeting, which also dis cussed in detail the reasons for the temporary fall of the Sikh militant movement, was attended by about two dozen experts on the subject. They included Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, D.S.Gill, Col Bhagat Singh, Dr.Gurtaran Singh, Prof Bhupinder Singh, advocate Gurdish Singh Grewal, Gurbhajan Singh Gill, M.S.Grewal and journalist Dalbir Singh,

Participants, later named as “Dis cussion Group” (DG), stressed the need to forge an over ground political front to rerail the Sikh struggle and to democratically involve the people into the struggle as political groups in the past have failed to practically contribute anything for the success of the Panthic goal,

The Discussion Group in its resolutions appealed to the Sikhs in India and abroad to collectively celebrate martyrdom anniversary of Bhai Harjinder Singh and Bhai Sukhdey Singh Sukha on October 9 as they had Jaid down their lives for the glorification of the Sikh Panth.

In another resolution the meeting expressed its concern over the large scale disappearances of Sikhs, their women and political activists at the hands of the police and asked the international public opinion to raise their voice against the persecution of the Sikhs and intervene in restoring their basic right of self-determination.

In yet another resolution the DG has asked the SGPG members 16 resign as it has already spent its lime and to start sincere efforts to get IL elected at the earliest.

The DG members appointed Lakhowal its convener and Jaswant Singh Khalra and Gurdip Singh (Aj Di Awaj) as coconyeners, In order to continue the process of discussion, the next mecting of the DG will be held on September 4.
