UNA: Punjab entered the final of the North Zone under 17 Interstate Cricket Tournament when they defeated Haryana on the basis of the first innings lead.

Punjab, who tottered at 62 fort five at one stage in their first innings made a splendid recovery to amass 402 runs, Ravinder Tinku hammered an unbeaten 139, while Munish Bali and Vaneet Malhotra scored 89 and 55 runs, respectively. Katyal was Haryana’s most successful bowler with a haul of five for 42.

Haryana made a promising start through their openers Vishal Thukral (30) and Sumil Luthra (34) who put on 75 runs. But once this pair was dismissed the Haryana batting collapsed and they were shot out for a meager 147. Punjab off-spinner Chaman Lal took six for 32.

Punjab did not enforce the follow on despite their massive 255run lead. Batting a second time, Punjab scored 205 for two thanks to an unbeaten 100 by Dalbir Mandi and Rakesh Rehru’s knock of 89. At this stage the match ended with Punjab emerging as the victors on the basis of the first innings lead.
